Track 12: Primary Healthcare in USA

Health care in the United States is the world’s most expensive, yet America’s health outcomes are nothing to boast about. In a study by Nolte and McKee, the US had the most elevated rate of deaths amenable to health care per 100,000 population of 19 countries concentrated on, with a rate not exactly twice that of France.

While there are various explanations behind this, a standout amongst the most essential seems, by all accounts, to be our inability to primary care within our health care system. Countries that do focus on primary care have better health at lower expense. The US has very low primary care ratings  which are scores assessing availability to and utilization of primary care compared to other developed countries. Cardio vascular issue continue being the noteworthy purpose behind mortality identifying with around 30% of all passing’s around the world. The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act contains a number of provisions to expand primary care capacity. These provisions are coordinated towards medical school graduates and include payment reform, student loan forgiveness programs and expanded primary care residency positions. In USA Primary care physicians earn $60.48 per hour; specialists on average earn $88.34. A follow up study conducted by the UC Davis Health System found that earnings over the course of the careers of primary care physicians averaged as much as $2.8 million less than the earnings of their specialist colleagues. This discrepancy in pay has potentially made primary care a less attractive choice for medical school graduates. In 2011, about 17,000 doctors graduated from American medical schools and only 7 percent of graduates chose a career in primary care. The average age of a primary care physicians in the United States is 47 years old, and one quarter of all primary care physicians are nearing retirement. Fifty years ago roughly half of the physicians in America practiced primary care; today, less than one third of them do.

Track 13: Lifestyle disorders in the United States

Lifestyle disorders  are diseases that appear to the increase in frequency as countries turn out to be more industrialized and people live longer. They can incorporated Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, atherosclerosis, asthma, cancer, chronic liver disease or cirrhosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, chronic renal failure, primary osteoporosis, stroke, depression and obesity. In 1900, the main three causes of death in the United States were pneumonia/influenza, tuberculosis, and diarrhoea/enteritis. Communicable diseases accounted for about 60% of all deaths. In 1900, heart disease and cancer were ranked number four and eight respectively. Subsequently to the 1940s, the majority of deaths in the United States have resulted from heart disease, cancer, and other degenerative diseases. And, by the late 1990s, degenerative diseases. accounted for more than 60% of all deaths.

It should be noted, however, that lifestyle diseases have their onset later in an individual's life and need a more drawn out lifespan with a specific end goal to wind up the reason for death. This proposes the future during life expectancy at birth of 49.24 years in 1900 was too short for degenerative diseases to happen, contarsted to a life expectancy at birth of 77.8 years in 2004. Likewise, survivorship to the age of 50 was 58.5% in 1900, and 93.7% in 2007.

Scope & Importance of Primary Care Congress -2016 Conference

The conference will be organized to bring together practitioners, administrators, policy makers, politicians and researchers within the field of primary health care and public health. Conference themes will focus on issues related with Innovation, Sustainability, Equity, Critical thinking and Uncertainty. Internationally there is increasing recognition of the importance of the primary care system for improving health outcomes and managing costs. Stronger primary health systems are associated with better health outcomes and lower costs, particularly for children. Improved primary health and community support also has the potential to prevent hospital admissions, particularly for ambulatory sensitive conditions. As well, better primary health and community support can also prevent inappropriate and unnecessary use of residential care services.

The World is changing and so are health services. Urbanization and globalization have its’ impact on what is needed from health care providers and subsequently how health care is organized. More and more cities and other local authorities become increasingly important for the health of their citizens.

Why Phoenix?

Phoenix is the capital, and largest city, of the state of Arizona. With 1,445,632 people (as of the 2010 U.S. Census), Phoenix is the most populous state capital in the United States, as well as the sixth most populous city nationwide.

Phoenix is the anchor of the Phoenix metropolitan area, also known as the Valley of the Sun, which in turn is a part of the Salt River Valley. The city is the 13th largest metro area by population in the United States, with approximately 4.3 million people in 2010. In addition, Phoenix is the county seat of Maricopa County and is one of the largest cities in the United States by land area. The population growth rate of the Phoenix metro area has been nearly 4% per year for the past 40 years. While that growth rate slowed during the Great Recession, it has already begun to rebound. Phoenix is the cultural center of the Valley of the Sun, as well as the rest of Arizona. In 2011 (the last year for which information is available), Phoenix had a slightly younger population than the country as a whole. While the United States had 13.3% of its population over the age of 65, Phoenix's percentage stood significantly lower, at 8.1%. Phoenix's percentage of 18.8% in the next age group, 45–64 was also a great deal lower than the national average of 26.6%. This results in 73% of Phoenix's population being 44 or younger, as compared to national percentage of 60.

In 2010 (the last year for nationally reported figures), Phoenix was at or below national levels for most reportable diseases, with the exception of both hepatitis A and B, where they were slightly over the national average (0.8 and 1.8 to 0.5 and 1.1%, respectively).

In most major categories, Phoenix had a lower incidence of death than the rest of the nation. Only deaths due to Alzheimer's (29.7 to 27.2 deaths per 100,000) and pre-natal conditions (5.3 to 3.8 deaths per 100,000) were slightly above the national average. Deaths due to HIV and liver disease were exactly at the national average of 2.5 and 10.8 respectively. However, in several major categories, Phoenix had significantly lower indices of death: deaths by cancer stood at only 57% (106) of the national average of 184.6 deaths per 100,000; deaths due to heart disease, 56.1% of the national rate of 249.8 per 100,000. Cancer and heart disease were the two top causes of death in the country.

Low weight births (7.5%) were below the national average of 8.1%, yet infant mortality (7.2%) was higher than the rest of the U.S. (6.1%). Births to teen mothers were significantly higher than the rest of the country, sitting at 12.2% as compared to 8.4% nationally.

The Phoenix metropolitan area is serviced by 56 hospitals and medical centres.

Members Associated with Primary Healthcare:

Important pressures are the integration of Community Care and Primary Care or in other words the connection between Public Health and care for the individual. The difficulty for local authorities is to adapt their care system to the increased needs of the individuals living within their neighbourhoods. These needs have not only increased in volume but also in complexity. An adequate monitoring system for these local authorities, providing insight of the needs in terms of prevention and health  promotion, reactive care including emergencies, continuity of care, dealing with chronically ill mainly in the context of home care is crucial and creating equitable financing which take into account the differences between affluent and other parts within the city are needed. Local governments need information, assistance and capacity building on how to achieve practical solutions for these major challenges which lie ahead and will become more visible in the coming decades. The Community Oriented & Integrated Primary Care approach is a model that fits very well to tackle most of the challenges. Moreover, addressing health problems requires an intersectoral approach at the local level, integrating health and welfare sectors with housing, work, education, and infrastructure.

Target Audience:

Leading world Doctors, Registered nurses, Professors, Directors, Dieticians, Research fellows and many more from leading universities, companies and medical research institutions, hospitals sharing their novel researches in the arena of Healthcare & Medicine.

Market value, Growth & Source of Funds

A growing market segment is demanding unscheduled access to primary healthcare services without consideration of health system or pre-existing clinician relationship. This population segment has given rise to a new set of "on demand" primary healthcare delivery channels. These on demand delivery channels have strong growth projections (ranging from 6.5 to 34 percent annually) over the next several years creating an opportunity or threat for the traditional primary care providers and the health systems.

As per estimates, the healthcare market is projected to grow at 12.0% p.a. to US$ 69.4 billion by 2018 from an estimated US$ 39.4 billion in 2013. Outpatient and inpatient markets are expected to account for 79% and 21%, respectively, of the overall market size. Saudi Arabia is projected to remain the largest GCC market. And expected to be the fastest growing markets; going forward. The demand for number of hospital beds is expected to be 115,544 in 2018, an addition of 11,241 beds from 2013, which is in line with the expected supply looking at the number of projects in the pipeline.

The IMF estimates that the region‘s population would cross the 50 million mark by 2020, providing impetus to the consumption of healthcare services. Rising income levels and sedentary lifestyles have led to a higher prevalence of obesity and diabetes leading to a demand for specialized healthcare services. GCC population in the age group of 65 and above is expected to surge from 1.2 million in 2015 to 14.2 million in 2050, driving demand for healthcare services. Also, infant mortality in the GCC improved from 110 per 10,000 live births in 2000 to 78 in 2012.

While growth in the region‘s insurance premium outpaces the growth in the global market, the insurance penetration remains one of the lowest in the world.

Pysicians working on Primary Healthcare

A primary care physician provides both the first contact for a person with an undiagnosed health concern as well as continuing care of varied medical conditions, not limited by cause, organ system, or diagnosis. A 2009 report by the  New England Healthcare Institute determined that an increased demand on primary care by older, sicker patients and decreased supply of primary care practitioners has led to a crisis in primary care delivery. The research identified a set of innovations that could enhance the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of primary care in the United States.
