Jawahar Jay Kalra, an educator, researcher, and quality health care advocate, is a Professor of Pathology in the University of Saskatchewan and has served as Head of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He is recognized for his many contributions as a clinical scientist, academic leader, and health system administrator. He has been a pioneer in establishing guidelines for thyroid-function testing, quality assurance program and contributed nationally and internationally in the area of total quality management. He has published extensively and is the author of the book “Medical Errors and Patient Safety: Strategies to reduce and disclose medical errors and improve patience safety.”

Quality management

Andrew W. Gottschalk, M.D. trained in sports medicine at both Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic. His extensive experience includes treating athletes of all levels of competition, including those in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NCAA Division I. As the Ochsner Health System’s Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine, Dr. Gottschalk serves as Head Medical Team Physician for the NBA New Orleans Pelicans. Dr. Gottschalk is also an avid writer, his multiple publication projects include his regular newspaper column, “The Sports Medicine Doctor.” Dr. Gottschalk is the current Musculoskeletal Health Editor for the medical journal Evidence-Based Practice.

Sports medicine

Marc Matthews graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the Mayo Clinic. His first task at Mayo was to redesign a community health clinic around the community’s definition of health, and this work led to a deeper understanding of how the healthcare system is not very aware of what it means for a community to be healthy. He is the Associate Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Office of Population Health Management and an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine. In these roles, he focuses on rethinking the way large healthcare organizations deliver care.

Tochi Iroku-Malize is a Professor and Chair of Family Medicine at Northwell Health (formerly North Shore LIJ Health System). She received her medical training at the University of Nigeria, did her internship in Trinidad & Tobago, completed her Master’s in Public Health at Columbia University and her Master’s in Business Administration at the University of Massachusetts. She is board certified in both Family Medicine and Hospice & Palliative Care. She has developed a curriculum for global health and has been involved in Academic Medicine and Primary Care for two decades. She has presented and published on multiple topics internationally.

Dr Richards qualified in medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital London in 1981, he undertook a period of research looking at the effects of cyclosporine A on endothelial function at St Thomas’ Hospital London prior to being appointed as Consultant Physician and Nephrologist at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in 1992. During his time in Birmingham he was actively involved in the development of an electronic patient record with associated drug prescribing system. He went into medical management as Clinical Director, Divisional Director and finally Director of Operations in Birmingham before leaving the NHS and taking up the position of Medical Director for the UK and Ireland for Fresenius Medical Care in 2004. He moved to his current position as the CEO and CMO of SEHA Dialysis Services in 2012. He remains actively interested in clinical research particularly in relation to epidemiology and prevention of chronic kidney disease. He has published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals.

Dr.Alkherayf is an associate Professor and a neurosurgeon at University of Ottawa. He is also a neuroscientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) with a cross appointment to the Clinical Epidemiology Program. He also directs the clinical research at the Division of Neurosurgery at the Ottawa Hospital. Additionally he directs the Spine Fellowship Program at University of Ottawa. After graduating from medical school he completed his neurosurgery training at University of Ottawa in 2010. He also completed two fellowships in complex spine surgery and minimally invasive skull base surgery. Additionally he obtained training in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics (MSc, Epidemiology and Biostatistics 2011) and he has completed the clinician investigator program by the Royall College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Dr.Alkherayf clinical practice focus on complex spine surgery, minimally invasive cranial surgery and complex cranio-cervical reconstruction. His clinical research interests lie in translational primary brain tumor research, clinical trials, and spinal cord injury. He has authored and co-authored many research papers and abstracts, and spoken at many international conferences. He has been serving as an editorial board member of many journals

Neurosurgery

Gill Hood has been involved in diabetes care since qualifying as a nurse in 1984 and from 1997 began working in diabetes research. She managed the NE London Diabetes Research Network from 2007-2013 increasing patient recruitment 5 fold during this period and conducting her own research into fasting during Ramadan for people with diabetes, how older adults manage diabetes over time, and improving the patient-doctor consultation in diabetes. Gill is also an original member of the EU funded Diamap study which aimed to project diabetes research milestones for the next ten years. She is also involved with patient and public information groups encouraging users to discuss research and be more involved. She is an honorary research fellow at Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) and continues to manage diabetes clinical research at QMUL. Gill is the Workforce Development and Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Lead for the North West London Clinical Research Network funded by the National Institute of Health Research. In her capacity as Workforce Lead Gill runs course in Clinical Research for nurses and allied health professionals. She also runs courses for patients and the public who want to be involved with research. Gill is a member of the Foundation of European Nurses in Diabetes (FEND) and the Novo Nordisk Research Foundation for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals. Gill’s diabetes research interests are in ethnic minorities and engaging hard to reach groups in research, diabetes and older adults, health professional education, and patient and public involvement.

Brian Littlechild, PhD, is Research lead in the Department of Nursing and Social Work at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. A qualified and registered social worker, he worked in hospitals and in the community with particular mental health needs before working in universities.He has published 44 books/book chapters/monographs, and 28 refereed journal articles.He has carried out 20 qualitative and mixed methods research projects, and published widely on, amongst other areas, mental health issues for young and adult offenders, mental health and risk assessment, and on violence from parents in child protection work.

Ingrid Schusterová is the head of the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent medicine, Children University Hospital P.J.Š. University in Košice, Slovakia. At the same time, she is the head physician in the terciary center for valvular and congenital heart defects, Eastern Slovak Institute of cardiac and vascular diseases. She took specialization exam from adult and pediatric cardiology at National institute of cardiac and vascular diseases in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. After graduation she took part in fellowship training at Ottawa Civic Hospital, and later on performed research work in the area of cardiology at University of Ottawa in Canada. In the period from 11/1999 till 7/ 2004 she completed her training at Cardiologic department, II. Internal medicine clinic, General hospital, Vienna under supervision of Prof. Dr. Gerald Maurer. Later in 2005 she broaden her professional knowledge and skills at Cardiac surgery clinic, Kardiocentrum Universitätsklinik in Bad Oyenhausen, Germany. Her reaserch interests focus on preventive cardiology, obesity, and disorders of lipid metabolism, atherosclerosis and their prevention in the pediatric age group.

Brendan Mitchell completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University in Queensland in 2010, and subsequently Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 2014. He is currently working as a resident Medical Officer at Gold Coast University Hospital in Queensland, Australia.

Naser Salihu finished his residency in Medical Faculty in Ljubljana. He has completed his PhD in Medical Faculty at University of Prishtina. Nasseer A Masoodi is a Senior Consultant and Vice Chair for General Internal Medicine at Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha (Qatar). Prior to his arrival in Qatar, he was a primary care physician at The Villages Health System, The Villages-FL (USA), and Vice President of Health service and Chief Medical Informatics Officer for ACV Inc. Dowling Park-FL (USA). He was a Member of Medical Informatics Committee of American College of Physicians. He also served as a Member of PMC (performance measures committee) of American College of Physicians from April 2009-April 2013. In this multifaceted role, he focused on reviewing, commenting, and voting on many different performance measures that were developed by organizations such as the AMA Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCPI), the National Committee on Quality Assurance, AHRQ, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, other specialty physician organizations, and Quality Improvement Organizations. He also served as Associate Professor of Geriatrics at FSU College of Medicine Tallahassee-FL. He is boarded in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Care. He received his MBA through University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA) and his Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Informatics through Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, USA. Kaye has been a registered nurse for over thirty years, practicing predominantly in rural Victoria. Her passion is aged care and the focus of her research interests for the past 6 years. She is a member of the rural health department, the University of Melbourne. She has published 20 papers in international peer reviewed journals and regularly presents her research at National and International forums.

Lori Sanderson completed her doctoral degree in public health education and promotion. She also holds a master’s degree of social work and is currently a licensed clinical social worker. She has worked as a medical social worker for over 10 years now and specializes with children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with kidney disease and/or diabetes. She recently accepted a part-time position at at eating disorder clinic in Claremont, CA. She has developed several programs to help the children with whom she works with. She is currently working to develop a non-profit organization in eating disorders.

Clive Tobutt is a Registered Nurse (Adult & Mental Health Nursing and Practice Educator). He completed a Post-graduate Diploma in Addiction Studies at the Institute of Psychaitry, London University and an MSc in Sociology (Health & Illness) from London South Bank University. He is currently a PhD student at the Univertsity of Winchester. He is a teaching Fellow (Mental Health Nursing) at Surrey University and a Senior Lecture at the University of Winchester. He has published 8 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an Editorial Board Member of the Advances of Dual Diagnosis Journal.

Dr. Eva Stephens, Associate Professor, Director of Nursing Education Track, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, School of Nursing. Earned Doctorate Degree Nursing, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio , Masters Science Nursing, Howard University, Washington, DC , Bachelor Science Nursing , Texas She has over 36 years of professional nursing experience, 20 years as a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner encompassing nursing education and clinical practice.

Her research has focused on the health consequences and management of obesity among Nurses, African American women and people of color.

At present Elisabeth Govers is president of the Dutch Knowledge Centre for Dietitians on Overweight and Obesity. She worked as a researcher for the Institute of Health Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She chairs the Specialist Network on Obesity of the European Federation of Dietetic Associations (EFAD). As a Registered Dietitian Elisabeth Govers runs clinics in primary care on obesity and its comorbidities.

She wrote articles on obesity management by dietitians, a guideline on the management of insulin resistance, as well as four books on nutrition and obesity for the general public. She is a reviewer for two journals

Dr. O'Keefe is a lawyer (JD) and a registered nurse (RN), with a doctor of philosophy (PhD) in nursing and a licensed professional counselor (LPC). She has a certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CNS Psych/Mental Health) and has extensive training in alternate dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. Dr. O’Keefe is a Professor in the UTMB School of Nursing, Galveston, Texas, where she has been awarded the Constance Brewer Koomey Endowed Professorship in Nursing and is recognized as an University of Texas Distinguished Teaching Professor. She is also a Professor in the UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, a Clinical Associate Professor in the UTMB School of Medicine, and a Visiting Professor in the Shantou University Schools of Medicine and Nursing, Shantou, China.

Dr. O’Keefe has published a series of textbooks known as Nursing Practice and the Law: Avoiding Malpractice and Other Legal Risks. She has a pending publication entitiled Policy, Power, & Politics: Creating the Leadership Potential in Nursing Practice.

Dr Satish Chandra is the Director for Medical Research at Tawam Hospital- Johns Hopkins Medicine International in Al Ain UAE. He has Bch.Med and later PhD, faculty of Medicine from the USA. He has authored more than 54 papers in international scientific peer-reviewed publication besides 2 book chapters on Molecular Medicine and Genetic Susceptibility of Diseases (Mary Ann Liebert, NY). He is involved as an investigator for clinical trials, chairs the ethics committee and continues to teach medical residents. Roderick S. Hooker is a health policy consultant with an interest in organizational efficiency. He spent two decades with Kaiser Permanente as a health services researcher, as a PA, and then moved to the University of Texas and the Department of Veterans Affairs in Dallas, Texas. Following the VA he became a Senior Director with The Lewin Group in Washington, DC, a health policy-consulting firm. He is a cofounder of the International Health Workforce Collaborative that meets biennially to discuss medical organizational economics. Over the past decade Dr. Hooker served as a consultant to the Ministry of Health in Ontario and New Brunswick. A similar consultancy was in Queensland and Scotland developing their PA corps. He is now retired and lives in Southwest Washington State.

As a health workforce researcher with a career focus on organizational efficiency I am interested in access to care, and task transfer. My research goal is to develop a maximum substitution model for all aspects of healthcare. This work employs economics, policy analysis, medical anthropology, sociology, history and industrial engineering. Such work is collaborative and could not be done without the invaluable input of many colleagues and students over the years.

Seamus Ryan is a practising Clinical Psychologist in Primary Care, working in the Health Service Executive, Ireland. Seamus completed his undergraduate degree at Trinity College Dublin; He completed a PhD at the University of Manchester, UK, where he researched the role of Primary Care Medicine in promoting recovery from psychosis. Seamus subsequently completed his professional training in Clinical Psychologist, during which time he undertook research into rheumatoid arthritis pain.

Peter Trice, a founder and vice president of the Innova Group, has spent more than 30 years developing his expertise in healthcare planning. Leslie S. Zun, M.D., M.B.A. is the System Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Sinai Health System in Chicago, Illinois and Chairman & Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine and a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois. His background includes a medical degree (M.D.) from Rush Medical College and a business degree (M.B.A.) from Northwestern University's JL Kellogg School of Management. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Zun was a chief operating officer and acting chief executive officer for a 200 bed hospital in Chicago. He is a board member of American Academy of Emergency Medicine and the President Elect for the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry. He is the chief editor of the Behavioral Emergencies for Emergency Physicians textbook and course director for the past five years for the National Update on Behavioral Emergencies conference.

Dr Zun’s research interests include healthcare administration, violence prevention and behavioral emergencies. His publications have addressed the administration of the hospitals and emergency departments, physicians’ bonus and incentive plans and quality improvement topics. He has presented his research and lectured on these topics both nationally and internationally.

Maha A. Al Turki obtained a Master of Medical Sciences in Human Nutrition in 2006 and PhD of Human Nutrition in 2014, both from the University of Sheffield/UK. Upon her return to Saudi Arabia, she joined King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in Riyadh as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nutrition. In her pursuit of academic excellence she is currently studying for a Master Degree of Medical Education at KSAU-HS.

At present, she is holding a position of Assistant Dean at the College of Applied Medical Sciences at KSAU-HS.

Bettie Coplan is Clinical Associate Professor at Arizona State University in the School for the Science of Health Care Delivery where she leads the online MS degree program. She also serves as adjunct faculty for Northern Arizona University’s physician assistant (PA) program and practices clinically part-time at a medical respite center for patient’s experiencing homelessness. Ms. Coplan has been a physician assistant since 1999 and an educator since 2006. She is a leader in her profession and has published several articles addressing PA and primary care issues. In 2012, she received the national Physician Assistant Education Association Research Achievement Award.

Bettie has practiced clinically since 1999; her experience includes correctional health, family medicine, and gastroenterology. Bettie has published in a number of journals and presented on a national level on various topics including the use of technology in education.

David K. Jones is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Law, Policy and Management at Boston University’s School of Public Health. His research examines the political and policy issues surrounding the ACA’s implementation. He is working on a book about how states made decisions about what type of health insurance exchange to establish. His work has appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, The Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, and The American Journal of Public Health among other places. He has been cited in media outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal

He is a part of multiple organizations focused on developing and disseminating research on the ACA. Dr. Jones is the winner of Academy Health’s Outstanding Dissertation Award for his doctoral thesis completed at the University of Michigan

Johannes Bircher has completed his professional formation at the University of Zürich, and his postgraduate education at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Zürich. Then he worked at the Department of Clinical Phar-macology of the University of Bern, at the Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa and at the University of Gottin-gen before he became dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Witten/Herdecke

His research interest is Clinical Pharmacology, Hepatology, Internal Medicine (General Medicine). He published 253 papers partly in high ranking scientific journals, and seven books.
